You already know the usefulness of the Instant Pot-this multi-purpose cooker can be used as a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, etc. to help you quickly make delicious dishes. During pressure cooking, it speeds up the cooking process, allowing you to prepare meals in a fraction of the time normally required, as a slow cooker, well, think of a great stew or sauce, gently Cook for hours and blend with mouth-watering flavors (maybe you have used Good Housekeeping’s Instant Pot Cookbook to make some of your family’s favorite meals).

After each use, the Instant Pot and its lid must be cleaned to keep it in its best condition and operate normally. Although the lid has many small parts, cleaning this cookware is much easier and faster than you think (almost all parts can be washed in a dishwasher!), and the professionals in Good Housekeeping's cleaning laboratory and kitchen appliance laboratory The Institute has compiled some handy tips to help you clean multi-purpose cookware, whether it's Instant Pot or other brands.

Before you begin: Turn off the Instant Pot and unplug the power plug, then pull out the inner pot. Be sure to let it cool completely before cleaning, and never immerse the base and heating element in water or put it in the dishwasher.

Degreasing detergent, such as Good Housekeeping Seal Star Dawn

Soft-bristled bottle brush, such as Casabella's

Soft cloth, such as Skura’s reusable microfiber wipes, or paper towels, such as Bounty

The inner pot can usually be cleaned in the dishwasher, whether it is a stainless steel pot or a non-stick pot. Place it upside down on the shelf at the bottom of the dishwasher for cleaning. If you can't use the dishwasher, please wash it in hot soapy water, use a dishwasher with good degreasing properties and a soft-bristled bottle brush to protect the surface, then rinse and dry.

To remove the burnt food residue in the stainless steel pot, soak it in hot soapy water, and then use a delicate scratch-resistant pad for additional scrubbing. Do not use abrasive cleaners or steel wool, they will scratch and damage the finish.

If the pot is discolored due to minerals or salt in the food, to remove the blue tint, cover the bottom of the pot with white vinegar and leave it for five minutes, then rinse and dry thoroughly.

Remove the parts from the outside of the lid-depending on the model of your Instant Pot, these parts may include the steam release cover (lift up directly) and the steam release valve (it can also be lifted up directly). Some models also have a Quick Cool cover, which can be easily unlocked.

Next, remove the small parts from the inside of the lid-these parts include the anti-blocking cover (the metal cap covering the steam release tube) and the silicone cap covering the float valve. Gently push the anti-blocking cover to the outer edge of the cover, then lift it up vertically, pop out the small silicone cap, and then slide out the float valve.

All small parts can be cleaned in the dishwasher, but we like to clean them with an old soft toothbrush in warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and air dry.

When the parts are still removed, scrub the lid. If the lid is dishwasher safe according to the manufacturer, place it face up on the top shelf. But you may prefer to wash it by hand (we do!) Use a soft brush to get into all corners and crevices. Rinse thoroughly to remove soap and any food residue.

To drain the lid completely, place it vertically above the sink and turn it like a steering wheel, turning it all the way. After cleaning, place the lid upside down on the base of the cooker to allow sufficient ventilation and prevent any odor. When all parts are dry, reinstall them (don't forget the small silicone cap of the float valve!).

Follow the manufacturer's instructions to remove the silicone seal from the inside of the lid; wash it by hand with hot soapy water or place it on the top shelf of the dishwasher for cleaning. Replace the sealing ring and make sure it is correctly located in the sealing ring holder, flat against the cover.

In order to eliminate the odor on the sealing ring, we like the solution suggested by the Instant Pot in its user manual: After cleaning the Instant Pot (and correctly installing all parts on the lid, including the sealing ring), add a cup of water and a cup Pour the white vinegar into the removable inner pot inside the Instant Pot. Close and seal the lid, then run the pressure cooking cycle for about five minutes. Relieve the pressure and open the lid when it is safe. Remove the silicone sealing ring gasket from the lid, empty the vinegar mixture in the pot, rinse the lid, sealing ring and inner pot with warm water, and then dry. Replace the sealing ring in the cover.

GH Lab Tips: The sealing ring is a key part of the Instant Pot, so please check it carefully when it is dry, and replace it if there is a crack or any other damage. Our professionals like to have two on hand.

If your Instant Pot has a condensate collector accessory on the back of the cooker base, please empty and rinse it after each use. To clean it, it can be washed in the dishwasher (on the top shelf), or hand-washed with warm soapy water, rinsed and air-dried.

Wash the steam rack and any other tools that came with the Instant Pot in the dishwasher, or wash it by hand in hot soapy water, and then rinse.

Wipe the inside of the base of the cookware with a soft damp cloth. Don't let the base get wet-it is not dishwasher safe! Use an old soft toothbrush to clean any residue on the edges and the groove where the lid is located; wipe it clean with a soft cloth. Let it air dry. Clean the exterior and control panel with a soft, hardly damp cloth. Wipe the power cord clean.
