Project description: Walter Douglas Elementary School is undergoing major renovations. A 40,000-square-foot two-story building has been added to the flying-themed campus, providing 24 new classrooms, maker spaces, media centers, and computer laboratories! The new architectural elements will be reminiscent of aircraft structures through the metal exterior. The original building structure was designed by John A. Shaver, who used a thin-shell concrete roof in the circular classroom pod to give the structure a clamshell-like effect. The Flowing Wells Unified School District is committed to maintaining this rich history and has included two roofs in the redesign of the campus.
